Trend Spotting at High Point Market
The semi-annual High Point Market, the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world, brings more than 75,000 people to High Point, N.C., for one week in April and another in October. After visiting hundreds of showrooms as a “Style Spotter”, three trends caught my attention. I expect to see these continuing to influence as we head into 2014.
Century Furniture’s Paragon Door Chest is constructed from mahogany solids and Mozambique veneer, shown in Century’s signature Paragon finish. The artisan-made Sequoia Cocktail Table by Brabbu epitomizes this trend, with its top in walnut and elm root veneers in a matte finish with a brushed brass base.
One of my new favorite vendors is Black Crow Studios and their Purple Mist Wallcovering. Purple Mist is custom artwork printed a mini murals around the room. Spectacular and so unique.

Stanley: Devoted to Restoration

Michelle Jennings Wiebe, founder and principal designer of Tampa, Florida interior design firm Studio M, was selected as one of High Point Market’s Style Spotters, allowing her to get a curated firsthand look at today’s best showrooms at market. Visiting Stanley Furniture was one of Wiebe’s most memorable moments in High Point, because Stanley did something revolutionary this year. The company released its Heritage Collection, real mid-century modern furniture from the 1950s and 1960s, painstakingly restored and beautifully showcased for the design community.
